YOUTH FACILITATION
ARCCA Grow Together is our series of youth workshops. We work in youth clubs developing creative programmes with young people across music, film, art and writing.
Our connection to Dog Kennel Hill Adventure Playground began in the way the most precious connections do - with openness, conversation and familiarity. Since then, we have been getting to know the incredible young people in the space and developing ideas with them.
Grow Together was the first in a series of workshops based in DKHAP. The aim is to teach young people DJing as a community building skill, to support their rap & poetry ideas, encourage their sense of curiosity & experimentation and to share a nurturing space that encourages points of connection.
Seeing the young people discover new ways to express themselves was magical. Seeing it click for them, as they mixed songs seamlessly, or rapped thoughtful bars. Seeing them see their friends do the same. Seeing everyone feel a sense of collective inspiration and pride. These are important sights we need to be seeing more of.
The aim of these workshops is to build longevity and trust in, so that the young people know we will be there on a regular basis. We want to support their journey with music in a reliable and tangible way.
“IT'S ABOUT NURTURING LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WILL BE IN THE COMMUNITY. IT'S ABOUT AMPLIFYING THEIR VOICE TO HELP THE COMMUNITY AMPLIFY IT'S VOICE”- Margaret Pierre
We work with the young people at DKHAP to host a radio show on Love Will Save The Day FM. Through mini-mixes, spitting bars and field recordings, we curate a pre-recorded show that gets streamed on the lovewillsavetheday.fm site. It is important that young people see and hear the value of their work, and understand what they are capable of achieving. These realisations have the potential to be groundbreaking for a young person on their journey of self-discovery.
