HANA is a short dance film that serves as a celebration of the female gaze and the liberated female Japanese identity, reclaiming the status of the subject away from the male gaze. The dance of a female Japanese dancer leads us through a journey of self-discovery. Similar to the growth and blossoming of a flower in the spring, she uses her body as a physical extension of her self and expresses a new-found power in self-affirmation as a woman through expressive dance.
