“Escondida” follows three children playing hide and seek in UNESCO’s world heritage site of Ilha de Moçambique and takes a glimpse into this rich historical island. Through the children’s game, we wander through the vast, surreal landscapes and discover the many abandoned buildings and ruins forgotten by the colonial Portuguese, such as the local hospital or the ancient fortress. Imageries of colonial architecture and unique sceneries refer to the remains of the island’s past which personify the collective memory. These contrast with scenes that portray local residents, which represent the current identity and liveliness of the island.
